Incheon Airport to Seoul: AREX vs Airport Bus vs Taxi, Day and Night
Incheon Airport to Seoul made simple: compare AREX express and all-stop trains, limousine buses, taxis and late-night buses by price, time and convenience.

For most first-time visitors, the cheapest way from Incheon Airport to Seoul is the AREX all-stop train. With a transit card it costs KRW 4,750 from Terminal 1 or KRW 5,350 from Terminal 2 to Seoul Station (roughly US$3.50–4). If you land late, have heavy bags, or are staying far from a subway line, an airport limousine bus (KRW 17,000 for adults on direct routes) or a taxi may suit you better. Late-night buses run after the trains stop.
This guide compares the options: what each one costs, how long it takes, where to board, and the mistakes that catch people out. Prices and rules were checked against the operators' own pages on November 2, 2026.

How does the AREX train work from Incheon Airport?
AREX (Airport Railroad Express) is the rail line that links both Incheon terminals with Seoul Station. Two kinds of train share the line, and the difference between them matters.

All-stop train (일반열차)
This is the commuter service. It calls at every station on the line, accepts ordinary transit cards such as T-money, and connects with the Seoul subway at stations including Hongik University (Hongdae), Gongdeok and Seoul Station.
- Fare: KRW 4,750 from Terminal 1 to Seoul Station and KRW 5,350 from Terminal 2, paid with a prepaid or postpaid transit card. A single-journey card adds KRW 100 to the adult fare and needs a KRW 500 deposit, which you get back at your destination station.
- Child fares: children aged 6 to 12 pay a reduced fare. AREX calculates it by route rather than listing one figure, so the gate deducts the correct amount from a child-registered card.
- Time and hours: the trip takes longer than the Express because of the stops. AREX publishes first and last train times on its website. Check the live timetable if you land early in the morning or close to midnight.
How to ride: follow the "Train" or "Airport Railroad" signs to the Transportation Center on B1. Buy or top up a T-money card at a convenience store or a station machine, then tap in at the all-stop gates. The Express has its own gates, so keep following the all-stop signs.
Express train (직통열차)
The Express runs between the airport and Seoul Station without stopping.
- Fare: KRW 13,000 for adults and KRW 9,500 for children aged 6 to under 13. AREX also lists a regular fare of KRW 18,500 (T1) and KRW 19,100 (T2), but KRW 13,000 is the discounted fare it currently charges adults. Discounts cannot be combined.
- Time: 43 minutes from T1 and 51 minutes from T2 to Seoul Station.
- Tickets: buy a ticket before you board. The Express customer centers are on B1 of the Transportation Center at both terminals, and there is another at Seoul Station on B2.
- Frequency: Express trains run less often than all-stop trains. Check AREX's Express timetable before you rely on one.
Promotions sometimes add Express discounts. Our Korea Grand Festival 2026 guide covers seasonal travel campaigns. These offers are temporary, so don't plan around one.
Is the AREX Express worth it?
The Express pays off mainly if Seoul Station is where you want to end up. That includes hotels around Seoul Station or Namdaemun, onward KTX trains, and travelers who want a guaranteed seat after a long flight. It costs several thousand won more than the all-stop train. If your hotel is in Hongdae, Gangnam or Jamsil, the all-stop train plus a subway transfer is often just as practical, and it is much cheaper.
How much is the airport limousine bus, and where do you catch it?
Airport limousine buses (공항리무진) are coaches that run directly to hotel districts and major stations. Airport Limousine, one of the operators, runs many Seoul routes. Examples include 6001 (Dongdaemun–Myeongdong), 6002 (Cheongnyangni–Hongdae), 6005 (Gwanghwamun and Seoul City Hall, via Sinchon and Hongdae) and 6015 (Myeongdong–Euljiro–Mapo). Other routes serve Yeouido, Sadang, Wangsimni and more.
- Fare: KRW 17,000 for adults and KRW 12,000 for children (elementary-school age) on direct routes. One preschool child per adult rides free.
- Buying tickets at T1: staffed ticket offices are on the first floor, inside the terminal at Gates 4, 6, 9 and 11. Ticket machines stand near Gates 4, 7, 8 and 11.
- Buying tickets at T2: the ticket office is on B1, toward the west short-term parking lot. Machines are near the waiting hall and bus stops, and by the Airport Railroad entrance.
- Hours: the ticket machines run 24 hours and also sell night-bus tickets.
- Boarding: passengers with tickets board first. At T1, routes 6001, 6002 and 6015 board in order of arrival and accept cash, transit cards or paper tickets. At T2, every route requires a paper ticket.
- No reservations: the operator takes no advance or online bookings. If a bus is full, you wait for the next one.
- Luggage: one ticket covers either two bags under 28 inches or one larger bag. Extra pieces are charged at half the fare.
The big advantage is that you never deal with stairs or transfers. Your suitcase goes underneath, you sit down, and you get off near your hotel. The downside is traffic: at rush hour the ride can take much longer than the timetable suggests.
What are the late-night options from Incheon Airport to Seoul?
After the last trains leave, late-night buses run into Seoul. Incheon Airport's pages listed these routes on November 2, 2026:

| Route | Main stops in Seoul | Adult fare | Ride from T1 to the last stop |
|---|---|---|---|
| N6000 | Songjeong, Yeomchang, Gangnam Express Bus Terminal | KRW 17,000 | about 70 min |
| N6002 | Hongdae, Four Seasons Hotel, Heunginjimun (Dongdaemun), Cheongnyangni | KRW 18,000 | about 90 min |
| N6701 | Mapo, Seoul Station, Euljiro Entrance, Dongdaemun Design Plaza | KRW 18,000 | about 70 min |
| N6703 | Seorae Village, COEX, Jamsil Lotte World, Gangbyeon, Gwangnaru | check with the operator | about 85 min |
At T1, the night buses leave from stops 3B (N6701, N6703) and 6A (N6000, N6002). At T2, they leave from the B1 bus terminal in the Transportation Center: stop 18 (N6701), stop 19 (N6703) and stop 24 (N6002). Buses that start at T2 take about 20 minutes to reach T1. Departures are infrequent, so check the timetable on the airport website before you fly. Tickets are sold at ticket booths and the 24-hour machines. For N6002 and N6701 you can also use the Tmoney GO app. Staff and discount tickets are not accepted on night buses.
If you land late at night, you have three choices: a night bus, a taxi, or a night at an airport hotel followed by the first morning train. The morning train is often the least stressful choice if you're traveling alone with luggage.
How much does a taxi from Incheon Airport to Seoul cost?
Taxis wait at marked stands outside arrivals at both terminals. The airport's taxi guide listed the following on November 2, 2026:
- Standard taxi: KRW 4,800 base fare.
- Deluxe or jumbo taxi (up to 9 seats): KRW 7,000 base fare.
- Night surcharge, standard Seoul taxis: 20% from 10 to 11 p.m., 40% from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m., and 20% from 2 to 4 a.m. Deluxe and jumbo taxis add 20% from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
- No boundary surcharge applies on trips from the airport to Seoul, Incheon, Goyang, Gwangmyeong, Gimpo or Bucheon.
- Tolls: ask the driver how expressway tolls will be charged before you set off.
A metered ride to central Seoul costs several times the bus fare, and more at night. Split between three or four people, though, it can come close to the cost of the limousine bus.
International Taxi is an officially designated service with foreign-language support, and it charges a flat fare within Seoul. Its number is 1644-2255. The T1 pickup point is 4C. Ask for the exact fare for your destination when you contact the company. The airport also warns that call vans posing as taxis sometimes solicit passengers and overcharge them, so use only the official taxi stands.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Tapping a T-money card at the Express gates. The Express needs its own ticket. Use your card at the all-stop gates.
- Assuming the Express is faster to your hotel. It only goes to Seoul Station. For Hongdae or Gangnam, the all-stop train is often just as convenient.
- Not checking your terminal on the way back. Departure terminals depend on the airline. When you take a limousine bus to the airport, tell the driver whether you need T1 or T2.
- Planning to pay for the bus by credit card. On buses from Seoul to the airport, you pay with cash or a transit card such as T-money. Onboard credit card payment and tourist passes such as the Climate Card are not accepted.
- Forgetting the night surcharge. A standard Seoul taxi costs 40% more between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.
Good to know
- Buy a T-money card at an airport convenience store when you land. You can use it on AREX all-stop trains, the subway and city buses.
- If you're flying out on a same-day international flight from Incheon, the City Airport Terminal on B2 of Seoul Station offers check-in, bag drop and immigration to Express ticket holders. Check-in runs 5:20 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the last check-in at 6:50 p.m. Participating airlines include Korean Air, Asiana, Jeju Air, T'way, Jin Air, Air Busan, Air Seoul and Eastar Jet. Some routes are excluded, for example the Americas on several low-cost carriers, so ask your airline first.
- For hotels in residential areas, Kakao T (taxis) and Naver Map or Kakao Map (transit directions) usually give better results in Korea than Google Maps.
- Incheon Airport customer service: 1577-2600.

FAQ
What is the cheapest way from Incheon Airport to Seoul?
The AREX all-stop train. With a transit card it costs KRW 4,750 from Terminal 1 or KRW 5,350 from Terminal 2 to Seoul Station (checked November 2, 2026).
How long does it take from Incheon Airport to Seoul Station?
The AREX Express takes 43 minutes from T1 and 51 minutes from T2, with no stops. The all-stop train takes longer because it calls at every station. Buses and taxis depend heavily on traffic.
Can I use T-money on the AREX Express?
No. The Express needs its own ticket, sold at the Express customer centers on B1 of each terminal's Transportation Center. Transit cards work only on the all-stop train.
How do I get to Seoul if I land late at night?
Take a late-night airport bus (N6000, N6002, N6701 or N6703; KRW 17,000–18,000 where fares are listed), or a taxi with the night surcharge. You can also stay near the airport and take the first morning train.
Is the limousine bus better than the train with luggage?
Often, yes. Your bags go underneath and the bus stops near major hotels, so you skip stairs and transfers. The train is cheaper and unaffected by traffic, so if your hotel is near a subway exit with an elevator, AREX is usually the better deal.
